Crispy Soya Chunks Chilli

Soya chunks / soya nuggets popularly known as meal maker are extremely high in protein.They are pure vegetarian beans, hence good choice for the vegetarians.Amazingly soya chunks have protein content equal to meat and contain no fat but meal maker was never been my favourite until my mother in law introduced this delicilous recipe.Yes, I am a fan now for this recipe.Why don’t you try it out and let me know how it came.

Ingredients Required

For the Marination:

Soya chunks (meal maker) – 1 cup

Ginger garlic paste -1tblsp

Coriander powder -2tblsp

Chilly powder – 2tblsp(or more according to the spice level you love)

Cumin powder – ¼tblsp

Corn flour – 2tblsp (optional but it makes the marination to stick well )

Red food color – ¼tblsp( optional)

Lemon juice – 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

For Frying :

Curry Leaves


For Seasoning:

Onion Slices.
Lemon wedges.




  • Boil the dry soya chunks in water for few minutes until they become soft and fluffy.
  • Now squeeze the chunks until the water oozes out completely then marinate the soft soya chunks with ingredients listed below “For Marination”  and keep aside for 20 mins.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and add curry leaves till crisp and set aside then deep fry the marinated soya chunks until crispy and turns golden brown
  • Garnish them with the lemon wedges and Onion slices.Delicious crispy soya chilli is ready to serve.



Note : If you prefer to use readymade powder like chicken 65 masala for this,then you can add ginger garlic paste,little cornstarch flour along with that.

This recipe goes well with all types of biriyani and its a great alternative for chicken lovers during purattasi madham.
